  • ATM PRESS RELEASE

    ATMMAchine

Earlier this afternoon it was brought to our attention that a patron of the Fair had reported on Facebook that they used their Credit Card onsite at an ATM machine provide by Crabtree Amusements.  Although this was not the only place the card was used, it was the last place that they used their card and it was compromised.
The Fairgrounds Manager, Tom Jones, took immediate action and called the Sherriff’s department to have the machines checked.   Upon arrival, Sherriff Investigators along with Crabtree Amusement manager Brandon Kibby and Fairgrounds Manager Tom Jones checked all machines provided on the grounds.  They were looking for skimming machines.  No skimming machines were found in any of the machines and everything was found to be in order.  Skimming machines are easier to pinpoint when fraud has occurred and the Sherriff’s along with the Casper Police Department would have already received several reports of fraud if a skimming machine were in place.

Neither the Sherriff nor the Casper Police Department have received any reports.
The Sheriff Investigators informed both Jones and Kibby that just because a card was last used at one location, does not mean that is where the card was compromised.  More often than not, cards are compromised during a data base breach.
The Sherriff Investigators want to remind everyone that both credit cards and debit cards do not need to be skimmed, lost or stolen in order for them to be compromised.  Credit card companies also provide consumers with fraud protection and will not hold card holders responsible for fraudulent charges.
The Sherriff’s Investigators will continue to monitor the situation throughout the week.
